Biomass fuel harvested for ecofriendly boilers
Birmingham— This past year’s
harvesting of over 50 hectares of commercially grown willow began
at Dunstall Court, Feckenham, Worcestershire. Once dried, the
willow woodchip is used as an environmentally friendly fuel in
woodchip burning boilers.
A recent report by the Biomass
Task Force concluded that fuel from forestry, crops and waste
could reduce the nation’s carbon emissions by almost three
million tons a year if used to provide heating. The carbon saving
would be the equivalent of taking 3.25 million cars off the road. |
