Waste Management’s Harley sells for $1
million
Waste Management, Inc. auctioned
the now famous “Tonight Show” Harley-Davidson motorcycle
to benefit the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund on Saturday, December
10, 2005. Earlier in 2005, the company purchased the motorcycle
in an online eBay auction for $800,100, which was donated to the
Red Cross International Disaster Fund to benefit the victims of
the devastating Southeast Asian Tsunami.
The high bid of $1 million was
made by avid car collector and well-known Houston attorney and
philanthropist, John O’Quinn.
This Harley-Davidson motorcycle
is signed by 67 of the nation’s most famous personalities
including Presidents George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton,
and other famous celebrities like Jay Leno, Donald Trump, Leonardo
DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Demi
Moore, Ellen DeGeneres, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson and future
baseball Hall of Famer Roger Clemens of the Houston Astros.
In response to the recent devastation
caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, New Orleans native and
Waste Management CEO David Steiner wanted to find a way to make
a difference in the lives of thousands in the Gulf Coast region.
