IKEA plants 300,000 trees
The Natural Resources Council of America will honor IKEA and American Forests for their joint national environmental initiative to plant 300,000 new trees, helping to dramatically reduce pollution in the United States.
IKEA and American Forests will be presented with the Council's annual Conservation Community Award for the best in environmental innovation and effectiveness. The Council, composed of environmental and conservation organizations, is dedicated to fostering cooperation and consultation among a diverse, nationwide membership.
In 2006, American Forests collaborated with IKEA to ask IKEA shoppers to donate one dollar to plant a tree. IKEA matched donations for the first 100,000 trees planted. To date, IKEA and American Forests planted approximately 300,000 trees in the United States, enough to offset 100,000 tons of CO2 pollution over the next 40 years.
