Gas-to-energy facility set for Richmond

Republic Services, Inc., Fortistar and Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) have signed a power purchase agreement for a new, state-of-the-art landfill gas-to-energy power plant in Virginia.

Fortistar will build a 6.4 megawatt renewable energy facility, called Richmond Energy LLC, at Republic Services’ Old Dominion Sanitary Landfill in Richmond, Virginia. The plant is expected to achieve commercial operation in late 2011; the output will be sold to ODEC under a long term power purchase agreement.
