Landfill of North Iowa recognized by National Safety Council
The Landfill of North Iowa, a publicly owned Sanitary Landfill servicing more than 73,000 people in North Central Iowa, provides a safe workplace for its 9 employees and a safe destination for its customers.
In December 2006, the National Safety Council (NSC) announced that the Landfill of North Iowa is the winner of the 2006 Occupational Industry Leader Award, based on evaluation of the self-reported data submitted for the 2006 Occupational Excellence Achievement Award.
In early 2006, the Landfill of North Iowa applied for and was awarded the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award by the NSC based on 73,382 consecutive hours of worker activity with no lost time injuries or illnesses. Unlike the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, the 2006 Occupational Industry Leader Award cannot be applied for; winners are selected by the NSC. The Landfill of North Iowa was selected above all other participants in the 562212 (solid waste landfill) NAICS code. Only 167 other companies in North America were honored with this prestigious award in their respective category.

During 2006, the Landfill of North Iowa continued it’s exemplarily safety record with yet another safe year; equaling 21,175 additional hours of work without an injury or illness.
