Honda Civic GX achieves notoriety for environmental care

A natural gas-powered Honda Civic only available in California and New York topped the Greenest Vehicles of 2007 list by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The annual assessment is based on ACEEE’s “green score” rating system that takes into account fuel economy as well as health and global warming impacts.

The greenest car, the $25,000 Honda Civic GX, runs on natural gas, which is much cleaner burning than gasoline.

The downside is finding natural gas to fill the tank. Honda is trying to overcome this hurdle by selling a refueling pump for homes with a natural gas connection. Despite the accolades, Honda has no immediate intention of offering the car and refueling system in other states.

Toyota’s hybrid Prius and Honda’s Civic Hybrid took the second and third spots on ACEEE’s greenest list, respectively. Two new models, the Nissan Altima Hybrid and Toyota Yaris, took fourth and fifth.
