December steel shipments up 9.2 percent from November The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of December 2011, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,085,761 net tons, a 9.2 percent increase from the 7,404,828 net tons shipped in the previous month, November 2011, and a 13.7 percent increase from the 7,111,031 net tons shipped in December 2010. Shipments for 2011 are 91,865,449 a 10.1 percent increase vs. 2010 full year shipments of 83,443,836. A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 15 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 2 percent and cold rolled sheet, up 2 percent.
