April 2004SWANA Certification Adopted by State of WashingtonSilver Spring, MD— The State of Washington approved The Solid Waste Association of North America’s (SWANA) certification program for fulfillment of the State’s certification requirements for landfill operators. In May 2003, Washington’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee concurred with the State’s Department of Ecology proposal that landfill operator certification testing and recertification be administered by, and conform to the requirements of SWANA. SWANA’s requirements are consistent with the state’s RCW 70.95D specifications for the certification requirements. Dr. John Skinner, SWANA’s Executive Director and CEO, commented, “Our recent agreement between SWANA and Washington state is a landmark for both organizations.” |
