First Florida Keys ‘clean marina’
reaches fifth year
Islamorada, FL— The Department
of Environmental Protection (DEP) recognized Bayside Marina at
Worldwide Sportsman as a Clean Marina. The ceremony applauds the
marina for sustaining best management practices that are protecting
and preserving the valuable ecosystems of the Florida Keys.
Representatives of the Village
of Islamorada, the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce and the United
States Coast Guard Auxiliary joined DEP in celebrating Bayside
Marina’s anniversary. Bayside is the first Clean Marina
in the Florida Keys to complete the five-year review.
Bayside received their Clean
Marina status in August 2000 and now are the third in the State
to receive this five-year honor. There are currently 113 Clean
Marinas and 21 Clean Boatyards in Florida.
The Clean Marina Program encourages
Florida’s marinas, boatyards and marine retailers to use
eco-friendly practices beyond regulation requirements by adopting
best management practices.
