Over $350,000 awarded to Indiana communities

The State of Indiana is awarding over $350,000 of grant money for local recycling programs. The grants, ranging from approximately $1,000 to $50,000, will help the recipients begin a recycling program, improve existing recycling services or educate the public about recycling.

The grant money comes from the Indiana Solid Waste Management Fund, an account generated by a per-ton fee on solid waste disposed at Indiana landfills.

The following projects will be funded this grant round.

  • City of Lawrence (Marion County): $50,000 to purchase recycling containers, for contractor fees, for education/promotion costs to implement a new volumebased rate program study and to make changes for expansion and efficiency of the existing recycling program.
  • Town of Waynetown (Montgomery County): $17,853 to purchase a chipper to implement a new wood waste recycling program.
  • Town of Kirklin (Clinton County): $12,793 to purchase a chipper and for education/promotion costs to implement a new wood waste recycling program.
  • Town of Colfax (Clinton County): $12,000 to purchase a leaf collector to implement a new leaf collection program.
  • City of Crown Point (Lake County): $11,250 to purchase collection containers, for contractor fees and for education/promotion costs to implement a new business recycling program.
  • Town of Winfield (Lake County): $35,250 to purchase a chipper and a box truck and for education/promotion costs to implement a new wood waste recycling program.
  • ARC of Wabash County, Inc. (Wabash County): $21,255 to purchase a baler and conveyor to implement a new confidential document shredding service.
  • Youth Fair Chance, Inc./Asset Recycling Inc. (Marion County): $17,457 to purchase a baler, for education/promotion costs to implement a new cardboard recycling program and to expand their building material reuse program.

Wesselman Nature Society, Inc. (Vanderburgh County): $8,040 to purchase a new battery powered pallet jack and for expansion of their recycling program.

Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity (Vigo County): $17,000 to purchase a scissor lift loader and for expansion of their building material reuse program.

Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. (Porter County): $31,529 to purchase a shredder and tool steel cutters, sorting conveyor and input conveyor, bolt-on output conveyor, collection containers and for expansion of their confidential document shredding and recycling service.

Habitat for Humanity of Warrick County, Inc.: $12,409 to purchase a pallet jack and for expansion of their building material reuse program.

PrimeLife Enrichment, Inc. (Hamilton County): $20,981 to purchase a can crusher, collection containers and for expansion of their recycling program.

Franklin Township Community High School (Marion County): $1,143 for education/promotion costs to implement a new school recycling program.

Indiana State University (Vigo County): $13,500 to purchase collection containers and for expansion of services for the university’s recycling program.

Knox County Solid Waste Management District (SWMD): $21,507 for the purchase of recycling trailers and to establish recycling programs for two towns.

Wabash County SWMD: $30,000 for a new recycling research and education program.

Rush County SWMD: $11,000 to purchase a storage container, shelving, signage and for education/promotion costs to implement a new mercury collection and recycling program.

Crawford County SWMD: $2,887 to purchase a recycling trailer and for education/promotion costs to expand their recycling program.

Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County: $6,600 to purchase Freon evacuation equipment and for training and education/promotion costs to implement a new white goods recycling program.
