AF&PA paper reports
The American Forest & Paper Association released its January 2012 U. S. paper reports.
According to their Containerboard Statistics Report, containerboard production was flat, losing less than one percent over the same month last year. The production was up, gaining 1.5 percent compared to December 2011. Since both December and January have 31 days, the month over month average daily production had a similar increase of 1.5 percent. The containerboard operating rate for January 2012 also gained 1.5 points over December 2011, increasing from 93.6 percent to 95.1 percent.
Additional key findings from the containerboard report include:
Linerboard production fell slightly 0.9 percent.
- Medium production was flat (0.5 percent) over January 2011.
The January 2012 Kraft Paper Sector Report showed total Kraft paper shipments were 118.7 thousand tons, a decrease of 14.2 percent compared to January 2011. Total inventory was 83.3 thousand tons this month.
Additional key findings from the report include:
Total unbleached Kraft shipments decreased compared to January 2011.
- Constant compared to last January but increased from last month.
Total boxboard production decreased by 4.3 percent compared to January 2011, but increased 8.5 percent from last month.
Unbleached kraft folding production increased over the same month last year, and increased compared to last month.
Total solid bleached boxboard and liner production decreased compared to January 2011, but increased compared to last month.
The production of recycled folding decreased compared to January 2011, but increased when compared to last month.
Inventory of solid bleached kraft paperboard decreased over a year ago.
