AF&PA recycling award winners announced

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced the 2007 AF&PA Recycling Award winners.

In 2006, a record-high 53.4 percent of the paper consumed in the United States was recovered for recycling. AF&PA has set a goal of 55 percent recovery by 2012.

The 2007 AF&PA Recycling Awards winners are:

Ed Hurley Memorial Paper Recycling Award (for individual achievement):

• Jack Horner, vice president of sales and recycling, Goodwill Industries in Knoxville, Tennessee.

AF&PA Business Leadership Recycling Awards:

• Hewlett-Packard (HP), Palo Alto, California.

AF&PA Community Recycling Awards:

• Small Community (tie): City of Rock Hill, South Carolina and City of Perrysburg, Ohio.
• Large Community: Dorchester County, South Carolina.

AF&PA School Recycling Awards:

• School-wide (tie): Potter Street Elementary, Bainbridge, Georgia and Barbara Bush Elementary, Grand Prairie, Texas
• College and University: Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
