Michigan landfill no longer accepting
Toronto sludge
The Carleton Farms landfill, located in Michigan,
will no longer accept sludge from Toronto as of August 1. Toronto
sends approximately 990,000 tons of refuse each year to the landfill.
According to the Michigan Department of Environmental
Quality, the state has received thousands of odor complaints over
the past two years from landfill neighbors.
The site will continue to take Toronto’s
770,000 ton of trash each year.
