Western Pennsylvania Environmental Awards winners announced
The Western Pennsylvania Environmental Awards recognize and honor outstanding accomplishments in various environmental initiatives throughout western Pennsylvania.
The awards include cash prizes of $5,000 to be donated to local nonprofit environmental organizations designated by each winner.
An independent panel of judges selected the finalists. A Call for Nominations was distributed throughout western Pennsylvania in January 2007.
Winners were selected from the following categories: Community, Higher Education, Primary & Secondary Education, and Business.
The winner in the category of Community: Shoup’s Run Watershed Association, Southwestern PA Household Hazardous Waste Task Force.
The winner in the category of Primary/Secondary Education: Verna A. McGinley.
The winner in the category of Business: United States Steel Corporation.
Funding for the awards comes from the Dominion Foundation, which is dedicated to the economic, physical and social health of the communities served by Dominion companies.
