CMC Acquires Fabrication Plant in Rio Grande Valley

Dallas, TX - Commercial Metals Company, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, announced the acquisition of substantially all of the operating assets of the Steel Division of Varmicon Partnership, Ltd., a rebar fabrication operation located in Harlingen, Texas. This facility will be owned by CMC Steel Fabricators, Inc. and operate under the name of SMI Valley Steel as part of the CMC Steel Group, a family of companies in CMC's Manufacturing segment.

Varmicon began operation in 1941 and has since grown to multiple divisions, successfully supplying ready mix concrete and construction materials to customers primarily in the Rio Grande Valley. Varmicon's Steel Division has been operating since 1950. Mike Cantu will serve as General Manager of SMI Valley Steel. Cantu previously held the position of Sales Manager and Assistant General Manager of Alamo Steel (a CMC Steel Group fabrication facility in Waco, Texas).
