September 2004 Campaign Launched to Protect Trash Truck Workes in PennsylvaniaHarrisburg, PA— The Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association (PWIA) is running radio spots on 60 stations throughout Pennsylvania to promote safety awareness with the slogan, “Slow Down to Get Around.” The slogan is aimed at encouraging motorists to slow
down and be careful when they pull around a stopped trash truck —
or any other kind of delivery truck. “Every year, a number of trash truck workers throughout the country are struck and injured or killed because motorists weren’t being careful when they pulled around a stopped truck,” said Tom McMonigle, president of PWIA, which represents private-sector waste haulers and landfill operators in Pennsylvania. Trash trucks belonging to PWIA members soon will be sporting colorful “Slow Down to Get Around” decals to add emphasis to the radio messages and spread the safety-conscious attitude even more widely. |
