American Iron hosts scrap contest

American Iron sponsored the “Art of Recycling” metal sculpture competition for the fifth year. The official associated Aquatennial event is staged to support local artists and to promote recycling awareness.

On “retrieval day”, artists are given one hour of supervised time to select materials from American Iron’s Minneapolis processing facility.

Participants then have five weeks to create their sculpture from the recycled metals. Artwork is judged on originality, artistic merit, and creative reuse of recyclable materials.

Cash prizes are awarded for first, second and third place winners in the large and the small categories. Also, a popular “People’s Choice” award, as determined by public voting, is awarded at the end of the two-day show.
