Over
two-thirds of recovered paper exported to China
Annual trade data published by RISI, an information
provider for the global forest products industry, shows China
accounted for 54 percent of global trade in recovered fiber in
2009, a substantial increase from its 34 percent share in 2004.
The United States exported over two thirds of its recovered paper
to China in 2009, just over 13 of its 19 million tons. Chinese
paper and board mills imported another 17 million tons of recovered
paper from the rest of the world.
The data, compiled into one time-series database
by RISI economists around the globe, shows exports from the major
producing countries to 62 destination countries for key graphic
paper, packaging and pulp & recovered paper grades.
