Metal Management extends its support

Chicago, IL— Metal Management, Inc. announced its intention to extend operational and logistical support to Southern Recycling LLC in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Metal Management owns 28.5% of Southern Recycling, which is headquartered in New Orleans and has operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Southern Recycling has informed Metal Management that it currently is operating at approximately 80% capacity with only the New Orleans facility down while awaiting power and access. Metal Management has advised Southern Recycling that Metal Management is ready to assist Southern Recycling in returning to full capacity and in meeting the regional recycling challenges of this disaster.

Southern Recycling has been working closely with municipal, state and federal authorities to assist in the enormous effort which will be required to recover and rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. Metal Management, in conjunction with Southern Recycling, is prepared to marshal significant personnel and equipment to accomplish an efficient and environmentally safe recycling of scrap metals from the impacted areas in New Orleans and the broader Gulf region.
