July steel shipments up
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported
that for the month of July 2006, United States steel mills shipped
9,016,000 net tons, a 15.9 percent increase from the 7,781,000 net
tons shipped in July 2005, and a 7.5 percent decrease from the 9,739,000
net tons shipped in the previous month, June 2006.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments
shows the following changes within major market classifications:
service centers and distributors, up 4.9 percent; automotive, up
17.6 percent; construction and contractors’ products, up 15.4
percent; oil and gas, up 9.7 percent; machinery, industrial equipment
and tools, up 10.9 percent; appliances, utensils and cutlery, down
3.9 percent; containers, packaging and shipping materials, up 6.2
percent; and electrical equipment, up 21.5 percent. |
