America Recycles Day is November 15th

Washington, DC - On November 15, 2002 residents and businesses throughout the United States and several territories will celebrate the sixth annual America Recycles Day.

Through nationally sponsored and local events, America Recycles Day is helping to raise consumer awareness of the importance of recycling and completing the recycling loop through the purchase of products and packaging made from recycled-content materials. The theme for America Recycles Day 2002 is "Make Every Day America Recycles Day."

The first America Recycles Day was celebrated on November 15, 1997. Last year millions of Americans participated in events throughout the United States.

This year national sponsors are helping to raise awareness by encouraging everyone to pledge or promise to recycle more, buy recycled products and to remember to make every day a day to recycle. Sponsors have donated prizes to be awarded to those who pledge or promise to be more active with recycling.

Prizes include 24-speed aluminum Trek bicycles and shopping spree vouchers for recycled products. Contest entry forms are available through many local organization listed on the America Recycles Day website. Paperless pledges are also accepted via the internet at:

America Recycles Day, Inc., is being organized by a nationwide public-private partnership. Official sponsors are Alcan Aluminum Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Home Depot, Waste Management, 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance, National Soft Drink Association, Staples, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
