Auto shredder gets high-tech with dust

SA Recycling, located in Anaheim, California, has adopted a two-stage strategy that combines a damp shredding operation with specially-designed suppression equipment from Dust Control Technology. As a result, the site is able to maintain control of airborne particles to prevent inhalation by workers and to reduce nuisance dust that could effect the local community.

“All of our operations are designed to use the latest control technologies to help us meet the highest standards of environmental health and safety,” stated George Adams, president of SA Recycling.

SA Recycling selected the Dust Boss suppressor that blankets as much as 21,000 square feet with a fine mist of water droplets that are atomized to 50-200 microns in size.

“The droplet size is critical to effective suppression,” explained Dust Control Technology president Edwin Peterson. “Fugitive dust particles tend to be quite small, so the water should be atomized to droplets near that same size.”
