Hilex Poly Co. Announces New"Bag 2 Bag" Recycling Facility

Los Angeles, CA— Hilex Poly Co., LLC, a manufacturer of plastic bag and film products for the retail and grocery industries, broke ground on November on a new $13 million facility in North Vernon, Indiana, that will reprocess used plastic bags into new ones, the first of three that Hilex plans to build across the U.S. The company has also announced an aggressive recycling program that will educate the public and encourage consumers to recycle their plastic bags.

Although bags currently collected through recycling are used in various other plastic products, the launch of Hilex Poly’s recycling facility marks a new step in an innovative program designed to put recycled content back to work in the “Bag 2 Bag” program creating an environmentally friendly closed loop solution to plastic shopping bag recycling.

The facility and programs are a natural evolution of the leadership that Hilex has established in the plastic bag and film industry, according to Rex Varn, president and COO of Hilex Poly Co., LLC. “We have always been committed to reducing strain on the environment, but just having post-consumer content in a bag is not enough anymore,” said Mr. Varn. “The new facility and ‘Bag 2 Bag’ program will enable grocery stores and retail outlets to provide their customers with an environmental promise — that, when returned, the plastic bags they use to carry out their purchases today will be made into new bags they can use tomorrow.”
