August steel shipments up 5.7 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute reported that for the month of August 2009, United States steel mills shipped 5,570,000 net tons, a 5.7 percent increase from the 5,271,000 net tons shipped in July 2009.

A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 2.8 percent; hot rolled sheet, up 6.8 percent; and cold rolled sheet, up 9.9 percent.
