Waste Management Opens Glass Recycling Facility
Union City, CA - Waste Management, Inc. announced the grand opening of a state-of-the-art glass recycling facility by its glass processing business CRA-Recycle America. The new facility provides a steady source of high-quality, recycled glass for Gallo Glass Company, a subsidiary of E & J Gallo Winery, in Union City, California.
The facility features a fully automated glass sorting line that removes foreign material, including ceramic and metal, from three-mix glass, a combination of clear, brown and green recycled glass. Since it began operations in June Company, which has, in turn, used the high-quality glass to produce new bottles. The facility has the c2001, the Union City facility has provided 28,000 tons of superior quality recycled glass to Gallo Glass apacity to process 160,000 tons of three-mix glass annually, or approximately 25 tons of glass per hour.
The glass produced from the Union City facility will allow Gallo to produce exceptional quality glass bottles more efficiently, while increasing the use of recycled three-color mixed glass.
"This state-of-the-art equipment ensures that glass recyclers in California will have a market for their material well into the future, " said Charles Porta, president of CRA.
CRA is the second largest glass processor in the United States and one of the largest users of high-tech automated technology in processing glass. CRA's 10 U.S. facilities process more than 800,000 tons of container glass annually. CRA services all major glass container manufacturers.
