Albertsons Recycled Over 342,000 Tons in 2002Boise, ID— Albertsons set a standard for other
retailers to follow when it established a program to recycle cardboard
in the late 1960s.
Since that time, the Albertsons program has expanded dramatically, adding additional items to the list of reused or recycled products and significantly diminishing the amount of waste that is placed in community landfills. In 2002, more than 342,000 tons of materials were recycled by the company. This material included items such as cardboard, plastic bags, scrap metal, batteries and fluorescent bulbs. Albertsons entered 2003 with an increased focus on conservation and strict adherence to a commitment to operate in full compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
